About Kristen & Seasonal Grains
Welcome to Seasonal Grains blog. We are an urban homestead and a licensed cottage bakery serving organic, fresh-milled sourdough bread and bakes. Our home is often filled with sounds of the pattering of little feet, children homeschooling at our kitchen table, wheat milling in our NutriMill, the smells of freshly baked bread, or the sight of random strawberries, beans, or rocks (IYKYK) picked from the garden and brought in by our children as they play… and lots of dancing!
The Original Bread Baker

Meet my husband, Dametri, the original farm dreamer and bread baker in our home! Long before Seasonal Grains was a cottage bakery, little homestead, or blog, Dametri was studying Joel Salatin’s ways of farming, listening to a local wheat supplier (Sue Becker) teach the benefits of milling wheat, and dreaming his childhood farm dreams. Dametri soon learned how to bake the best bread from a fellow firefighter baker and was given our grain mill as payment for a side job he worked – the best barter yet! His often-requested biscuits, fresh-milled loaves, and grain mill have been staples in our kitchen for nearly a decade, greatly influencing my bread baking.
About Kristen
Hi! I’m Kristen, the heart behind the blog. In short, I’m a devoted follower of Christ, a proud wife, a passionate mother, a sourdough-loving cottage baker, and an urban homesteader.
My greatest work and delight is that of a mother. Spending my days homeschooling my children and nurturing their hearts is an honor. It’s a dream that I never knew I desired. I was not the little girl who dreamed of marriage and motherhood. However, falling in love with Dametri and our desire for a big family revealed my heart for mothering. During that time, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Christian Ministry. My love for the scriptures and desire to see healthy families drew me to major in Ministry. I desired to pour into children, young women, and mothers, casting a vision for the beauty of motherhood, the value of children, and the importance of creating a nurturing and intentional home environment.
Shortly after marrying Dametri and completing my studies, we were pregnant with our first daughter. Dametri and I felt the call for me to be home and I’ve had the joy of fulfilling my career aspirations within the walls of our home for the last 12+ years. I’ve also had the pleasure of pouring into numerous young women and mothers during this time.

About Seasonal Grains
I began baking sourdough bread in 2021 as part of a personal journey to support my digestive health. After battling chronic acid reflux (GERD) for over a decade and only finding relief through apple cider vinegar, I decided to explore the world of fermented foods. I decided to start fermenting my garden vegetables and testing out fermented bread. What began as a health experiment quickly became something more. I fell in love with the art of sourdough baking. I had never made a loaf of bread before this, so sourdough was my introduction to baking bread. It soon became a creative outlet, a way of nourishing my family, and a means of blessing others.
What started as sowing seeds into hearts over the years slowly led to sowing seeds into the soil, milling wheat seeds for bread, and growing a little homestead bakery. From the early years of Dametri’s homemade firehouse biscuits, his milling wheat for our homemade bread, growing our homestead lifestyle to my love for fresh-milled sourdough bread and desire to provide other families with the same nutrition that I was providing for my own home, there seemed to be a natural progression into growing our cottage bakery, plus a strong encouragement from friends and family to start selling the bread we were giving out. So, we decided to go for it and began selling our bread in 2024.
We dream of one day having farm bread pick-ups and produce farm stands, so residing on a half-acre in a neighborhood governed by an HOA means that we are not in the space we ultimately desire, though we are so thankful for the amazing neighbors we have! For now, we are stewarding what is before us and encourage others to start with what they have!
